Following the merger of Sandwell and City Hospitals into Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, new care pathways created the need for updated patient information. A Quality Improvement Project revealed that only three Patient Information Leaflets were available in the Emergency Department (ED). A survey of ED clinicians including nurses, doctors, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Associates identified the 20 most needed PILs. These were rewritten to reflect updated MMUH-specific pathways. As part of aligning with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s Green ED standards, these PILs are being digitised and linked to QR codes. The QR codes will be displayed on posters throughout patient-accessible areas, including waiting rooms and ambulatory care corridors outside consultation cubicles. This project improves patient education, reduces paper use, and promotes equitable access to timely, accurate information offering a sustainable model for digital patient engagement in ED.
